SUCCESS

Success is defined in the dictionary as the accomplishment of a specific aim, goal, or purpose. Our colleagues, companies, families, friends, frenemies, peers, and supervisors define success with varying methods and parameters. An individual’s criteria for success will likely align to the person’s educational, economic, political, religious, and social values. The way in which an individual measures success should be based upon their own individuality and ideology.

Allowing economic and societal pressures to define success can become overwhelming and unrealistic. Success is much more than fame, fortune, and the accumulation of material possessions. Success can be just mastering how to be true to yourself. Success can mean always being and doing your very best. Success can be having a peaceful home that represents your sanctuary. Learning to differentiate between needs and wants can be a success. Differentiating between necessities and luxuries can be a success. Developing belief in yourself can be seen as a success. You should understand by now, success is anything that moves you toward your better self or your life’s goal. As an individual, you define your own definition of success, and you walk to the beat of your own drum.

Allow me to take personal privilege to relieve you from the family,  peer, and societal pressures to obtain success. There is no set amount of income. There is no established cash reserve, personal savings, or retirement savings. Success is having whatever you need to live the best life for you and your family, whether you desire or have a family. The most important thing to remember about your own personal success is making sure that you can rest well each night knowing the choices and decisions you have made.
